VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

POST: RESEARCH DIRECTOR
BACKGROUND
The ministry of health and social welfare and the drug control communication (DCC) in collaboration with the centers for disease control and prevention, mhimbili, national hospital, mwannanyamala municipal hospital and Temeke municipal is impementating a program aimed at increase coverage of people who use drugs (PWUDs) into medically assiseted treatment (MAT) of opioid depence with an ultimate goal of minimizing HIV infection among (PWUDs). The program intends to achieve this goals throgh execution of innovative key population implementation science (PKIS) on optimize methodene. Delivery with take away dose of methadone. The initiative will be implimanted with the financial support from the USA president emergency plan for ADDS relif (PEPFAR) throgh the centresa for centers for disease control and prevention with technical assistance from a USA based PANGAEA global AIDS foundation.

The ministry now invites invites applicants who are qualified, self motivated, dymnamic, results oriented pefomer and commited individuals to fill the position of a RESEARCH DIRECTOR. The incumbent wil be part of the key population implemention science team of investigators.
Duration: 12 months renureble to a miximum of three years.
Duty station: dar es salaam.
Report to: principal investigator.
Purpose and scope of position:
The research director will be responsible for overseeing and day-to- day implementaion of the program as per the research protocal. He/she will provide leadership as well monitoring and supervision to research staff. He/ she will peform he/she functions with the quidence of an implementation science techical Advisor.
Overview of functions:
1. Oversee day-to- day iplemention of the research as approved protocal.
2. Work in close collaboration with the technical advisor to achieve the research goals.
3. Fallow up on study ethical clearance approval and renewal to the appropriate authorities.
4. Provide leader, supervision and coordination of support service to serch staff.
5. Participate in evelopment and implimantation of dataa collection instruments.
6. Ensure data correction and implimantaion of data correction instruments.
7. Coordinates management and threngthen infomaton system and quality control procedure for data collected throgh the research.
8. Participate in the analysis of data for the development of data collected throgh the research.
9. Laise with MAT site data entry personnel / M& E coordinator to facilitate smooth flow of research data from the site to the study office.
10. Organies and maintains study office filling system, record keeping systems in support of study protocal and office layout.
11. Develop work plans and stragies to achieve research objective and oversee budgets and policies and procedure and studyoffice layout.
12. Monitors progress of study activities through developing and mantaining records of research activities, and prpairing periodic and ad hoc reports as required by investigator any implimantionpartiner organisation or anyrelevant body.
13. Provide diversified secretarial support to the program include coordinating regular investigators meetings, community advisory committee meetings, appontment, traing to research staff and study workshop such as necessary inputs for effective delivery of HIV prevention services among PWUDs.
14. Parcipate in technical working groups (TWG) meetings on MAT AND provide necessary inputs for effective delivery of HIV prevention services among PWUDs.
15. Coordinate travel visits for consultants and internation investigators.
16. Perfom other duties as requiredby the principal investigator.

QUALIFICATION REQUIRED:
• The the applicant should have a phd in epidemiology, social science or other related field.
• Demonstrated capacity with quantitive and research methodology and analysis.
• At least five years of experiance in working with key popuration and extensive knowledge of issues pertaining to people who use drugs.
• Experiance in working with health facilities and NGOs settings particularly those dealing with key popurations involving people who use drugs.
• Knowledge with statistical and qualitative analysis software (eg SPSS pakeges).
• Good team player with ability to work indepently culture sensitive with excellent interpesonal and stong written and communication skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively with national, interntional consultants and techinical advisors.
• Ability to work under pressure and to multistask with ease.
• Fluent written and spoken english and kiswahili.
