Matthew Knowles Claims Beyoncé Wouldn’t Be as Popular If She Had Darker Skin

Matthew and Beyonce
Matthew Knowles’ new book, Racism: From the Eyes of a Child, is the talk of the town. The 208-page memoir focused on his views of racism was officially released in December of last year via Music World Publishing, but it’s currently receiving mixed reviews because of his commentary regarding his family and how they’ve progressed in society because of their skin color.

Bey’s father – and former manager – was first under scrutiny last week after passages in the book told stories of Mr. Knowles’ dating life, which only included white women before he met his now ex-wife Tina Knowles Lawson. But as the book has received further review now that Matthew is making is press rounds, many are now questioning his comments surrounding Queen B and the ways her success is related to her skin color.
In a recent interview with EBONY magazine regarding the book, Knowles said, “When it comes to Black females, who are the people who get their music played on pop radio? Mariah Carey, Rihanna, the female rapper Nicki Minaj, my kids [Beyoncé and Solange], and what do they all have in common?”
The answer unfortunately is simple: they all have lighter skin complexions.
He went on to admit that he only began dating his now ex-wife, Tina Knowles, because he thought she was white.
Matthew Knowles’ comments were blunt, but we must ask ourselves, does he have a point?
