Abt Associates, a major American business and government research, technical assistance, and consulting company, manages the USAID-funded Africa Indoor Residual Spraying 2 (AIRS 2) Project.  


The PMI AIRS Project supports the President’s Malaria Initiative (PMI), as well as USAID Missions and Bureaus with malaria programs outside the PMI focus countries, in planning and implementing IRS programs with the overall goal of reducing the burden of malaria in Africa by enhancing USAID’s ability to implement IRS programs on the ground through cost-effective commodities procurement and logistics systems, access to technical expertise, and implementation of IRS in countries affected by malaria.


Abt Associates seeks qualified candidates for the project’s operations in Bukoba, Tanzania.  Brief descriptions and qualification requirements for open positions are listed below.

Bukoba Store Keeper

Under the supervision of the Tanzania Logistics Coordinator, the Project Assistant 7 / Bukoba Store Keeper manages the project’s Store in Bukoba.

Specific duties and responsibilities include the following:

•    Receives all Abt Associates AIRS project commodities and records them in ledger books in a timely manner.
•    Receives and inspects all incoming materials and reconciles with the delivery document and distributes documentation to the concerned and tracks damages and discrepancies on orders received.
•    Reports on the quality and quantity of the received commodities, ensures that quantities dispatched as per consignors’ documents match the quantities received, and endorses documents.
•    Maintains clean storing conditions.
•    Ensures good warehousing practices.
•    Supervises the offloading and stacking of the commodities, follows up by tracking the commodities in the  pipeline, and reports the same to the appropriate personnel.
•    Controls incoming IRS equipment and commodities by such methods as physical counts, random weight checks, and rejections of any damaged and/or poor quality items back to vendors.
•    Handles and maintains accurate store records  --  stock cards, bin cards, incoming and outgoing ledger book, etc.
•    Supervises the central store guards and maintain appropriate security system for the store.
•    Ensures that the USAID/PMI IRS environmental compliance and safety requirements are followed at all times.

Qualification requirements include the following:

•    Secondary School (minimum), or a Technical School Diploma, or Bachelors Degree (desirable).
•    At least 3 years of experience in warehouse/store and inventory management.
•    Knowledge of handling insecticide and spray equipment.
•    Knowledge of environmental monitoring and safety.
•    Record keeping and organizational skills.
•    MS Word, MS Excel and/or MS Access.
•    Ability to fluently write and speak English.

Mwanza Driver

Under the supervision of the Administrative Assistant, the Driver 3 operates and maintains project vehicles to meet the transportation needs of the AIRS 2 Project in Tanzania

Specific duties and responsibilities include the following:
•    Drive project, and project affiliated personnel to project sites within the base location, and throughout the project implementation area for project activities, including official site visits.
•    Transport project equipment, materials, supplies and documents to project sites
•    Maintain up-to-date record keeping systems for vehicle issues including fuel, mileage, and trip logs.
•    Observe all company vehicle utilization policies, in country traffic laws.
•    Maintain project vehicle, including keeping accurate records, and following a schedule of routine maintenance, repairs and cleaning.
•    Ensure the readiness of the vehicle for transport service by checking oil, water, fuel, and tires, maps, and conducting safety and security inspection prior to driving.
•    Perform project routine business around the province, such as receiving and delivering official project documentation to and from district office, general office purchasing, and photocopying.
•    Purchase of basic cleaning and kitchen supplies and assist in the purchase of other project authorized items.
•    Perform relevant general service activities such as collection of proforma, processing customs duty clearances and tax exemptions, as directed.
•    Make arrangements for repairs, maintenance, and improvements to the office, as requested by the project management.
•    Regularly check post office boxes, collect and dispatch letters, parcels and other correspondence, and perform other local errands.

Qualification requirements include the following:
•    Completion of Secondary School is highly desirable.
•    Valid Driver’s License.
•    At least 6 months prior experience in commercial driving.
•    Thorough knowledge of local traffic laws and area traffic patterns.
•    Knowledge of safety and security principles
•    Excellent driving record and experience in traveling through the base location and other key areas of the country.
•    Previous work experience on a development project is desirable.
•    Time management skills
•    The ability to communicate in basic English is desirable.
