Police are quizzing a British Merrill Lynch banker over the brutal killing of two sex workers in Hong Kong.
Rurik Jutting, 29, was arrested after the bodies were discovered in an apartment in Hong Kong's Wan Chai district in the early hours of Saturday morning, when many revellers were out celebrating Halloween..
Jutting attended University of Cambridge and Winchester College and until recently worked for Bank of America Merrill Lynch.
One of the women - aged between 25 and 30 - was found with wounds to her neck and buttock, and pronounced dead at the scene.
The body of the other victim was found inside a suitcase on the balcony and she had sustained neck injuries, police said.
Assistant Commander Wan Siu-hung told reporters: "We believe the death was caused by a sharp object which cut the throat of the deceased.
"This led to copious bleeding. When the police found her, she was lying in the living room. The room was messy."
Sky News reports Jutting had worked for Merrill Lynch from 2010 until only a couple of days ago, spending three years at their offices in London before moving to Hong Kong in July last year. Before that he worked at Barclays in London.
Officers were called to the address - reportedly an apartment - in the early hours and later seized a knife.
A statement from Hong Kong Police said: "Police are investigating a murder case in Wan Chai in the small hours of yesterday in which a foreign woman aged between 25 and 30, and another woman were killed.
"At about 3.42am, a 29-year-old foreign man made a report and requested police to investigate a case in a unit at 60 Johnston Road, Wan Chai.
"Police sped to the scene and an unconscious woman aged 25 to 30 was found lying inside the unit. Sustaining cut wounds to her neck and buttock, the woman was certified dead at scene.
"In the course of investigation, police found a suitcase at the balcony of the unit, and a female dead body with neck injuries was found inside the suitcase."
"Police arrested the 29-year-old man at the scene for murder. He is being detained for enquiries. A knife was seized at the scene," the spokesman continued.
"Post-mortem examinations will be conducted later to ascertain the causes of death of the deceased."
A Foreign Office spokeswoman said: "We can confirm that a British national has been arrested in Hong Kong. "We are in touch with the local police and stand ready to provide consular assistance."
Neighbours of the Jutting family today spoke of their shock after waking up to the news that Jutting had been arrested on suspicion of double murder.
One resident, who lived next to the 29-year-old's childhood home, said he had been shocked by the news and described the family as a "nice enough" and who were "quiet and kept themselves to themselves."
He said he remembered Rurik and his brother, Auryn, living with their parents, Helen and Graham, at the Grade II listed home in Chertsey, Surrey, as teenagers.
After Rurik moved away to study law at Cambridge University, his parents moved into a grand Victorian home in nearby Cobham.
Answering the door at the home this morning a tired looking man, believed to be Rurik's father Graham, told reporters "Please respect our privacy."
The picturesque Grade II listed manor, which is set behind wrought iron gates and surrounded by woodland, was built in 1861 and was the inspiration for Ernest Shepard's illustration of Kenneth Grahame's children's classic The Wind in the Willows
