The family of beheaded journalist James Foley have revealed they have watched the gruesome video of his sickening execution.
The footage of the brutal murder was posted on YouTube by IS fanatics after they killed Mr Foley in cold blood on Tuesday.
His father John explained he and his wife had watched the video because “We just needed to know”.
When asked if he could forgive those behind the barbaric act he added: “Not today... but as Christians we have to.”
Mr Foley’s younger brother Michael said he believed James would have put himself forward to be executed if it meant saving the lives of his fellow hostages, claiming his brother cared "more about others than himself."
The 38-year-old said: "I think he was probably the strongest and most prepared for it. God forbid there's others. But you can see just from the clips, from the video, he wasn't afraid.
"Jim was a hero. He was my hero."
James’s sister Katie, 26, appealed to her brother’s killer, who has been dubbed Jihadi John because of his East London accent, to put an end to the violence.
The naval nurse said: “We are all just praying that he and other captors can be merciful.”
But IS have warned that one of James’s fellow captives American journalist Steven Sotloff will be next to be executed if the US do not adhere to the groups demands.
