Tanzanian girl(21-year-old) stripped, assaulted by locals in Bengaluru, India

Days after a 35-year-old woman died in Bengaluru after being run over by a car driven by a Sudanese student, details have emerged of a 21-year-old Tanzanian student, who arrived at the scene of the accident 30 minutes after the incident, allegedly being stripped and assaulted by a mob.

She tried entering a BMTC bus but was pushed out by passengers in the bus. She was refused entry by an auto rickshaw driver as well.

The girl, a second year BBA student of Acharya College, had no connection to the students involved in the accident, reports Deccan Chronicle.

Bosco Kaweesi, the legal adviser of All African Students Union in Bengaluru, said that the Tanzanian girl and the Sudanese man, who was booked for the accident, were not known to each other.

The Tanzanian student was travelling in another car – a Wagon-R – along with four friends and had arrived at the accident spot 30 minutes after the incident. The mob reportedly beat her, stripped her of all clothes and made her parade around naked in the presence of the police. The mob also set ablaze the Wagon-R, with all the students losing their valuable documents, including passports and ATM cards.

A bystander, who tried to help the woman, was also attacked.

"The scared students were forced out of the car and then the car was set ablaze. The driver of the second car identified as Micah S Pundugu was beaten up black and blue by the mob, who then stripped the girl student.

When someone from the crowd offered her a T-Shirt to save her modesty, that man too was beaten up by the mob. She later, with her torn clothes, tried to enter a BMTC bus that had slowed down nearby, but the passengers in the bus pushed her back down onto the road." -Bosco Kaweesi
