Since May 20, 87 MERS infection cases have been registered in the country, according to the Yonhap news agency. The government says the situation remains under control, as more than 500 schools have been temporarily closed and more than 1,000 people have been put under quarantine.
The MERS viral respiratory disease is caused by a new strain of a coronavirus (MERS‐CoV). The World Health Organization (WHO) has warned of the typical symptoms of MERS, which are a fever, coughing and shortness of breath.
The first time MERS was registered was in Saudi Arabia in 2012.
